Job Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Art Technician to support the Art Department in preparing materials, setting up equipment, and maintaining the art studio environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that students have access to high-quality resources and that practical lessons run smoothly. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a keen interest in the arts and the technical skills to help inspire and support students in their creative journey.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and organize materials and equipment for art lessons, including setting up and clearing away after practical sessions.
  • Maintain and monitor the art studio, ensuring it is well-stocked, clean, and organized.
  • Support students during practical lessons by providing technical assistance and guidance on materials, techniques, and processes.
  • Assist in the safe storage and handling of art supplies, including paints, chemicals, and tools, ensuring that health and safety standards are adhered to.
  • Help with the production and display of student artwork for exhibitions and school events.
  • Maintain and repair art equipment, including tools, pottery wheels, and printing presses.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the art studio, including risk assessments and safe handling of materials.
  • Assist in the ordering and stock control of art supplies and resources.
  • Provide administrative support to the Art Department, including organizing student portfolios and records.
Person Specification:
  • Experience working in an art-based or technical support role, preferably in a secondary school or educational setting.
  • A strong interest in the visual arts and a good understanding of art techniques, processes, and materials.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of health and safety guidelines related to art materials and equipment.
  • A relevant qualification in Art, Design, or a related field is desirable, but not essential.
  • Previous experience with printing, ceramics, or digital media is a plus.
