Senior Design Engineer
Location: Derbyshire

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Senior Product Design Engineers to join an award-winning manufacturer based in Derbyshire. The client is looking for hands-on, creative design engineers who can drive innovation while ensuring designs are optimised for efficient manufacture, particularly in PVCu extrusion processes.



Overview

As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you will play a key role in developing cutting-edge fenestration products (windows, doors, bi-fold doors, conservatories, decking and garden rooms) , setting new standards in design, performance, and functionality. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that designs are not only innovative but also optimised for efficient production and assembly.



Responsibilities

  • Innovation & Design Leadership: Lead the development of high-quality, groundbreaking fenestration products, exploring new materials, techniques, and design concepts.
  • Design for Manufacture: Ensure innovative designs are optimised for efficient production, assembly, and cost-effectiveness, with a strong understanding of PVCu extrusion and tooling requirements.
  • Collaboration & Cross-Functional Teamwork: Work closely with production and technical service teams to ensure manufacturing feasibility and enhance real-world usability.
  • Extrusion Process & Tooling: Apply in-depth knowledge of extrusion processes and tooling to create scalable, manufacturable designs.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Lead the prototyping process by creating functional models and mock-ups, utilizing 3D printing and fabrication techniques.
  • CAD Design & Technical Documentation: Use SolidWorks and AutoCAD to develop detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and assembly instructions.
  • Material Selection & Sustainability: Select and optimize eco-friendly materials that enhance product performance and manufacturability, integrating sustainable design practices into the development process.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10+ years of experience in product design, with expertise in PVCu and Aluminium extrusion processes.
  • Hands-on prototyping experience, including 3D printing and fabrication techniques.
  • Experience in sustainable design and eco-friendly materials is desirable.
