Maintenance Engineer - Mechanical
W Talent are extremely delighted to be supporting a leading and highly respected manufacturing company based in Ripley, Derbyshire, in their search for a Shift Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical Bias or Multi-Skilled). Purpose of the Role
As part of a skilled engineering team based in Ripley, Derbyshire the Shift Maintenance Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of critical machinery and systems within the facility. The role involves both reactive and preventative maintenance to minimise downtime and support operational efficiency.
Working within a 3-shift system, alongside another engineer and a Shift Team Leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high safety standards, optimising equipment performance, and contributing to an ongoing shift towards a proactive maintenance approach. Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all machinery is operated safely by providing proper training, enforcing safety protocols, and installing safety equipment.
- Ensure that all systems, machinery, and equipment comply with health and safety standards.
- Reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns and minimise costly repairs.
- Conduct regular inspections, cleaning, and servicing of machinery to prevent breakdowns and repairs.
- Foster a culture where employees are encouraged to identify and suggest process improvements, equipment upgrades, or training programmes.
- Regularly assess and enhance site facilities, including optimising layout for efficiency, maintaining cleanliness, and upgrading facilities as needed.
- Implement security measures to ensure the site remains safe and secure.
- Facilitate precise issue diagnosis, team collaboration, increased safety measures, and improved efficiency in system maintenance and repair.
The successful candidate must have:
- Time-served mechanical maintenance apprenticeship or minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
- Practical working experience in manufacturing/industrial environments.
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and arc welding; metal fabrication and repairs.
- Skilled in assembly, installation, and repair of various piping systems
- Competence in fault-finding, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, and actuators.
- Experience in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of pneumatic circuits.
- Knowledge of bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, motors, chains, and belts.
