The Opportunity
We are looking for a Lead EC&I Engineering Manager who will shape pragmatic, effective EC&I engineering solutions for various projects across U.K nuclear infrastructure and ensure that all engineering teams are staffed with qualified and capable professionals. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with proven experience in and knowledge of the nuclear sector in the U.K; looking to move into a strategic and technical leadership position with a vibrant specialist team.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Develop and sustain the necessary process engineering capabilities to support the engineering function.
  • Guide and implement pragmatic, fit-for-purpose EC&I engineering solutions for projects.
  • Ensure that all EC&I engineering staff are suitably qualified and experienced (SQEP) for their roles.
  • Manage the acquisition and strategic allocation of EC&I engineering resources, optimising deployment for maximum value.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee the application of EC&I engineering procedures, standards, and guidelines.
  • Provide recommendations for supply chain capability requirements and maintain connections with professional bodies and parent organisations for access to subject matter expertise.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the development and performance of Principal Engineers and direct reports.
  • Ensure timely single and multi-discipline design reviews.
  • Offer expert consultancy and guidance on EC&I engineering matters and support risk mitigation efforts related to design engineering.
  • Communicate and liaise with regulatory bodies when needed, and review relevant legislation to incorporate requirements into procedures.
  • Oversee the collation and dissemination of engineering learnings and best practices.
  • Work within financial delegations and approve engineering procedures and standards.
  • Recruit and appoint Principal Engineers, manage their SQEPing, and set recruitment strategies.
  • Allocate work assignments, manage resource mobility, and intervene to resolve engineering conflicts.
  • Conduct audits related to EC&I engineering as necessary.

You will have the following qualifications & experience

  • BEng (Hons) in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with MIET or MNucl status (equivalent experience may be considered).
  • Extensive background in EC&I engineering, ideally in regulated environments.
  • Proven track record in delivering complex engineering projects across different plant lifecycle stages.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and working with other engineering specialists.
  • Acting as an Intelligent Client or Subject Matter Expert within assurance processes.
  • High-level expertise in authoring and approving detailed engineering deliverables for high-hazard facilities.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the UK and complete security vetting.
Some travel to other offices and client sites will be required, and a flexible approach to work is necessary.

The setting for the role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
