The Opportunity
This is an exciting time to join a team working on nuclear energy projects contributing to the transformation of the UK’s nuclear fleet and support the development of new small modular reactors (SMRs). Reporting to the Process Engineering Lead, you will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers to enhance your technical expertise and to help develop/ mentor junior engineers.
Location: Warrington (other UK locations considered)

Alongside a competitive salary, this Senior Process Engineer role also offers you flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options between home and office locations. Your base office can be in the north west, north east or south west.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
- Supporting nuclear clients with process design and assurance in areas such as:
- Nuclear new build.
- Technical assurance of design reports for clients and regulators.
- Design justification and safety report assessments for new and existing process plants.
- Leading or contributing to feasibility and optioneering studies.
- Acting as a Technical Lead or Discipline Lead.
- Facilitating HAZOP leadership and hazard identification studies.
- Developing process designs and overseeing the production and review of deliverables, including:
- Process flow sheets.
- PFDs and P&IDs.
- Datasheets and underpinning calculations.
- Basis of Design and Process Descriptions.
- Leading small teams of multidisciplinary engineers internally and in joint ventures.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
- A degree in chemical engineering (or equivalent expertise gained through apprenticeship and experience).
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership.
- Experience across the project lifecycle, from front-end engineering design to operational requirements.
- Broad understanding of process engineering to support varied projects across diverse clients and locations.
- Knowledge of civil nuclear systems, conventional power plant technologies, and associated design guidelines is advantageous.
It’s great if you also have the following
- Thermodynamics and fluid mechanics.
- Steam system design.
- Equipment sizing, including pumps, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
- Solids handling.
- Problem-solving, innovative thinking, and excellent communication skills.
The setting for the role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
