Astute's Power Team is partnered with a major waste management and energy company to recruit for a Mechanical Technician to join their brand new Energy from Waste Power Station in Essex.

The vital Mechanical Technician role comes with a salary between 45,000 - 50,000 + 6% call out allowance (on basic salary) + overtime + bonus + excellent benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader, you will be responsible for:

  • Carrying our fault finding, planned, reactive and breakdown maintenance activities on mechanical assets including steam boilers, pumps, gearboxes, valves, etc.
  • Working in line with maintenance techniques and best practices
  • To ensure compliance with the pressure regulations and lifting gear inspection requirements
  • Assisting in plant developments and projects
  • Supervising and setting to work on site contractors
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records on the site CMMS
  • Assist in outage planning, scheduling and coordination
  • Working closely with the EPC Team during commissioning phase into full operations
  • To ensure the availability of plant spares



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally have an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as Mechanical Engineering
  • A health and safety qualification such as an IOSH will be highly advantageous



Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Mechanical Technician role would suit someone who has:
  • Hands on maintenance experience with mechanical systems including, boilers, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, cranes etc
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation, petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc.
  • Royal/Merchant Navy Marine Engineers will also be considered
  • Involvement in plant mobilisation and commissioning is desirable but not essential.
