Astute's Power Team is partnered with a major waste management and energy company to recruit for a Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader to join their new Energy from Waste Power Station in Essex.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team of mechanical technicians to ensure the plant is maintained to the highest standard to ensure maximum plant availability
  • Scheduling, planning and optimising all mechanical maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner
  • Supervising and directing contractors.
  • Working closely with the operations department to assess and review plant performance shortfalls and how these can be rectified
  • Assisting in the setting up and development of the sites Computerised Maintenance Management System
  • Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner and in line with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies.



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally a HNC qualification in a relevant engineering discipline such as Mechanical Engineering
  • A formal health and safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous



Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Mechanical Maintenance Team Leader role would suit someone who has:
  • Proven supervisory / management experience in a heavy process engineering environment such as Power Generation, COMAH sites, Paper Mills, Pharmaceutical sites, FMCG, etc
  • Experience in maintaining and working on a variety of mechanical equipment including boilers, turbines, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, etc.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as PSSR
