Here at Empowering Learning we work with a nurturing and inclusive SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) specialist school in Rochdale, dedicated to supporting young people who face challenges in mainstream education. Our aim is to provide bespoke educational support and to help every learner thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and resilient Outreach Tutor to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will deliver 1:1 Tuition that will take place in community settings or in the home depending on the needs of the pupil.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalised academic support tailored to the individual needs of each student.

  • Develop and deliver engaging learning plans, with a focus on core subjects (English, Maths, Science).

  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students, helping to boost their confidence, self-esteem, and engagement with learning.

  • Work collaboratively with school staff, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for each student.

  • Monitor, record, and report on progress, behaviour, and attendance.

  • Adapt approaches to suit students with complex emotional and behavioural needs.

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or in alternative education settings.

  • Strong subject knowledge, particularly in core subjects.

  • A calm, empathetic, and flexible approach to supporting vulnerable learners.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage your own caseload and timetable.

  • A full UK driving licence and access to transport.

Desirable:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), HLTA status, or a relevant teaching qualification.

  • Experience in safeguarding and working with multi-agency teams.

  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
