A primary school in Rochdale is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school is committed to providing a high-quality, inclusive education for all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). They support children joining from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with SEND and also those transitioning from other schools with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with SEND and will be passionate about supporting them in achieving their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in delivering tailored interventions and support for children with a wide range of SEND, including those with EHCPs.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and provide one-to-one or small group support as required.
  • Support children in their transition from EYFS to KS1, as well as those joining from other schools, ensuring their needs are met effectively.
  • Help to create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Liaise with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure that the support provided is effective and appropriate.
  • Monitor and track the progress of SEND children, providing feedback to teachers and adjusting support where necessary.
  • Assist with the general classroom management and help ensure the well-being and safety of all children.

Person Specification:

  • Experience working with children with SEND, ideally in a primary school setting.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting children with a variety of SEND needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
  • An understanding of SEND legislation, including EHCPs, is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, and to support children both individually and in small groups.
  • A flexible and solution-focused approach to working with children with diverse needs.
