Job Title: Project Engineer (Mechanical Bias) - Water Treatment
Location: Rochester, Kent
The Role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Engineer with a strong mechanical bias to join our team and play a key role in the successful delivery of a major water treatment plant project in Rochester, working in partnership with Southern Water. This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to contribute to a critical infrastructure project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Engineering:
* Provide technical expertise for all mechanical aspects of the project, including design review, specification development, and construction supervision.
* Ensure that mechanical systems comply with relevant regulations, standards, and Southern Water specifications.
* Coordinate with mechanical subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely and efficient delivery of mechanical works.
- Project Management:
* Assist the project manager in planning, scheduling, and managing the mechanical scope of the project.
* Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans for the mechanical component.
* Monitor progress and identify potential risks or issues related to mechanical works.
- Construction Oversight:
* Provide on-site supervision and guidance during the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems.
* Ensure that mechanical work is performed according to specifications and safety standards.
* Conduct inspections and testing of mechanical systems.
- Documentation and Reporting:
* Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, including mechanical drawings, specifications, test reports, and handover documents.
* Provide regular progress reports and updates to the project manager.
- Collaboration:
* Work effectively with other project team members, including engineers, construction managers, subcontractors, and Southern Water representatives.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Essential:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
* Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Project Engineer on water treatment or related infrastructure projects.
* Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, valves, filters, piping, and other related equipment.
* Familiarity with relevant mechanical codes and standards (e.g., ASME, AWWA, NFPA).
* Experience with construction documentation, drawings, and specifications.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Desirable:
* Experience working with Southern Water or other water utilities.
* Knowledge of SCADA systems and control systems used in water treatment plants.
* Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile).
