We are working with a fantastic college who are looking for a Higher Construction Trainer to join their team.

This position is a permanent contract for an expert in all things construction management/civil engineering/planning.

Must have a strong understanding of a range of senior construction responsibilities and have experience of construction management / civil engineering / planning.

Education delivery/ assessment experience:

Ideally, they will hold a qualification in assessing competency qualifications such as TAQA, A1, D32 however if there is sufficient evidence that they have performed competency assessment to an appropriate level without holding the qualification they may be considered.

The role of the Apprentice Trainer for Higher Construction is to:

Ensure that apprentices are enrolled on the correct apprenticeship standard and the correct HNC in line with their employment /career objectives.

To discuss with the employer and the apprentice at initial engagement the course content, objectives, assessment process and criteria and how the qualification is finally assessed.

To ensure that the employer sponsor is able to provide the appropriate range and scope of work that enables the apprentice to practice and perfect the range of skills, knowledge and behaviours they will be required to demonstrate to meet the criteria of the qualifications and the End point assessments.

To ensure that the apprentices have clear instruction on what evidence they need to submit, where they need to submit it and then mark and provide feed back on the quality, relevance etc of the evidence uploaded by the apprentice. (apprentices will uploads their evidence to Smart Assessor E portfolio)

To work with the HNC / BSC lectures on ensuring apprentices are completing the HNC/ BSC course work and to prepare a progress report and present this feed back to the apprentice and employer at the formal progress reviews which must take place every 10 to 12 weeks in a meeting with the employer and the apprentice. Ensuring all expectations are discussed, developmental actions are agreed and documented, and all set objectives are followed up and completed timely.

There is no classroom teaching responsibility with this role, but they will be required to address groups of students and have a structured approach to providing clear and accurate instructions.

To continually monitor student progress and promptly action where there is areas for concern (late submission of work, poor quality of work)

To prepare the students for their final projects and end point assessment, liaising with the employers to plan sign off for the final projects.

To continually monitor the behaviour and development of the apprentice, actioning where attendance, attitude, behaviour requires improvement.

To monitor the welfare / safeguarding of apprentices and appropriately action where there re any concerns.
