Job Advert: Science Technician Position: Science Technician Location: Havering Pay: £17.31 per hour Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday) Start Date: ASAP, until Christmas with the possibility of extending. Purpose of the Job: To provide an effective and efficient technical service to science teaching, ensuring high standards of health and safety and supporting the learning environment. Main Tasks and Responsibilities: General Duties: Specific Duties: Prepare apparatus, materials, and solutions for practical classes, assessments, and exams. Work with teaching staff to develop apparatus and practical activities. Clean, maintain, and repair equipment, keeping maintenance records.Maintain stock levels and assist with ordering supplies. Dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with guidelines. Provide technical advice and assistance during practical classes. Support students in developing learning and study skills, including catch-up sessions. Supervise and facilitate practical sessions and open events. Cover lessons on a short-term basis when necessary. Person Specification: Relevant technician qualification (advanced/HNC equivalent preferred). Experience relevant to the duties of the post, with general laboratory technical skills. Knowledge of science subjects (chemistry, biology, physics) and their technical applications. Good organizational skills and ability to manage workload effectively. Familiarity with health and safety regulations in laboratory environments (HASAW act, COSHH, etc.). Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
