As a Public Protection Officer, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, customer-focused enforcement services. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Completing compliance and enforcement work within the Public Protection Service.
  • Investigating requests for service and conducting inspections and sampling programmes to ensure statutory duties are met, including high risk food businesses
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders, including members, residents, and external agencies, to foster positive community relations.
  • Supporting project management initiatives to drive continuous service improvement.
  • Maintaining legal and technical knowledge in specified areas of expertise.

As a regulatory role, you will be tasked with managing a multi-disciplined enforcement caseload and will need to maintain meticulous records to demonstrate compliance with statutory requirements.

Ideal candidates will possess the following:

  • Proven experience in managing an enforcement caseload within various public protection services.
  • Strong ability to effectively engage with stakeholders, demonstrating successful communication and negotiation skills.
  • You will have post qualification experience and be competent under the Food Law Code of Practice to inspect high risk food businesses
  • A relevant degree, diploma, or professional qualification in a related field is essential, while membership in a relevant professional organisation is desirable.
  • Competency in using ICT applications, including MS Windows, MS Office Suite, and GIS tools for mobile working.

This position is structured around a full-time commitment of 36 hours per week. Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours may be required to meet service demands. You will be based as a hybrid of home working and from the Town Hall, in Romford with the expectation of site visits where required. A valid driving licence is essential for this position.
