Maths Tutor/Teacher - Alternative EducationLocation: Romford, January Start

Remedy Education is proud to be working alongside an established and impactful alternative education provider supporting young people aged 13-16. This organization offers both GCSE and Entry Level Maths to students who have been partly or fully removed from mainstream schools or are at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training).

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Maths Tutor/Teacher to join the team. You will play a key role in equipping students with the skills they need for future success, working in small group settings and building meaningful relationships with students who face academic and behavioral challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Maths lessons (Entry Level and GCSE) to small groups of up to 12 students.
  • Develop and implement engaging schemes of work and lesson plans in collaboration with the Vice Principal and colleagues.
  • Mark and assess student work, providing constructive feedback.
  • Build supportive relationships with challenging students to foster their academic and personal growth.
  • Monitor and track student progress, behaviour, and attendance, maintaining accurate records.
  • Create individualised learning plans with appropriate targets.
  • Liaise with parents, schools, and other professionals to support student success.
  • Uphold and apply the organisation's code of conduct and disciplinary procedures consistently.

Additional Duties

  • Prepare reports for line managers, parents, and students.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions, including some outside regular hours.
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety policies both on-site and during off-site activities.
  • Promote and uphold Equal Opportunities practices.

Person Specification

  • Experience in tutoring or teaching GCSE Maths and/or Entry Level Maths.
  • Ideally hold or be working towards one of the following qualifications: DET, Cert Ed, QTS, QTLS.
  • Strong ability to build relationships with young people, particularly those with challenging behaviour.
  • Effective team working and organisational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to delivery and working methods.
  • Proficiency in ICT, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Strong planning, preparation, and project management skills.
  • High motivation, initiative, and excellent communication skills.

Terms & Benefits

  • Hours: Term-time only (39 weeks) plus 8 holiday INSET days.
    • Monday to Thursday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
    • Tuesday: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
    • Friday: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM (Student contact: 9:25 AM - 2:50 PM)
  • Salary:
    • Tutor Level (AET, PTLLS): £22,258 - £28,264
    • Teacher Level (DET, Cert Ed, QTS/QTLS): £25,680 - £32,614
