We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Humanities Teacher to join our team at a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Folkestone. The Humanities Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to students who have been excluded from mainstream schools or are at risk of exclusion. This role involves creating a supportive and engaging learning environment that addresses the individual needs of each student, helping them to achieve their full potential.
Day-to-day of the role:- Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated Humanities lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of Key Stage 5.
- Develop and implement individualized learning plans to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies to promote student understanding and achievement in subjects such as History, Geography, and Religious Education.
- Assess and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback and reports to students, parents, and the senior leadership team.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters studentsā social, emotional, and academic development.
- Collaborate with colleagues, including support staff and other teachers, to ensure a holistic approach to student education and well-being.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in education and PRU settings.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and behaviour.
- Support students in developing positive behaviour and coping strategies to manage their emotions and interactions.
- Engage with parents, carers, and external agencies to support studentsā educational and personal development.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Degree in Humanities or a related field.
- Experience teaching Humanities subjects at secondary level, preferably within a PRU or similar setting.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage and motivate students with challenging behaviours.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Empathy, patience, and a commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
- Knowledge of the National Curriculum and assessment frameworks for Humanities subjects.
- Experience in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Familiarity with restorative practices and other behaviour management strategies.
- Ability to create a safe and supportive learning environment for students with SEMH needs.
- Full-time position with standard school hours.
- Some flexibility may be required for after-school programs or special events.
- The role may involve working with students who have complex and challenging behaviours.
