About the school

This is a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school dedicated to supporting pupils who have had negative educational experiences. Their aim is to provide a nurturing environment where every student can flourish, regardless of their past struggles. They work closely with pupils with EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and SEMH needs, offering tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning.

Job Description:

As a Behavior Mentor, you will play a crucial role in supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing mentorship and guidance to students with challenging behavior, helping them to re-engage with their education.
  • Assisting students with their academic studies, ensuring they receive the support they need to excel.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other staff members to create individualised support plans for students.
  • Implementing behavior management strategies to promote positive behavior and emotional well-being.
  • Building trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and advocate for their needs.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Experience managing challenging behavior in an educational or residential setting.
  • Experience working with looked after children or adults with additional needs.
  • Passion for supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
  • Resilience, patience, and empathy when working with students facing SEMH challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available later.
