Role description:
- Survey and identification of available COTS hardware for acoustic piezoelectric transducers and ICP/IEPE and/ or MEMS accelerometers appropriate for given system requirements and constraints.
- Design of novel transducer and sensor mounting methods in CAD or similar for porting into numerical solver software (see below).
- Modelling the following using appropriate numerical solver software such as COMSOL, Ansys Mechanical, Simulia etc.
- Piezoelectric transducers.
- Propagation of structural vibrations.
- ICP/IEPE and/or MEMS accelerometers.
Validation of the models against real-world measured data would be undertaken along with assessment of the models shortcomings and implementation of subsequent improvements.
Required skillset:
- Background in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics or related STEM field.
- Highly experienced in Finite Element Analysis and other appropriate numerical solvers.
- Specialism in appropriate mechanical solver software such as COMSOL, Ansys Mechanical, Simulia, etc.
- Knowledge of piezoelectric transducers and ICP/IEPE and MEMS accelerometers.
- Appreciation of communication systems would be beneficial.
- The ideal candidate would have demonstrable experience in the design and/or modelling of acoustic transducers and sensors using mechanical simulation software such as COMSOL.
