Our client, a leading company in the energy sector, is seeking an Overhead Line (OHL) Design Engineer to join their project team based in either one of the following locations: Driffield, Derby, Belfast, or Whyteleafe. This permanent position involves developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for Electricity Transmission and Distribution Projects (11 kV and above). Key areas include Structure Foundations, Conductors and Conductor Systems, and Structural Design.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing preliminary and detailed OHL designs, including structure foundations, conductors, and conductor systems.
  • Preparing, checking, and submitting Design Intent Documents, Design Criteria Reports, and analysis reports.
  • Recording design data and design decisions.
  • Supporting Lead Engineers and Principal Designers.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and CDM regulations.
  • Assessing engineering documentation for feasibility and compliance with client requirements.
  • Ensuring designs meet current legislation, policies, and operational requirements.
  • Reviewing method statements and risk assessments, liaising with construction teams, and mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Collaborating across regional offices and teams for integrated solutions.
  • Supporting policy or procedural document development with Section Heads.
  • Attending site visits and other LSTC offices as required.


Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • A-level or equivalent in Maths.
  • Aspirations for or working towards membership of a relevant professional body, such as MICE, MIStructE, or MIET.

Experience:

  • Competence in industry software such as PLS CADD, PLS Tower, SAPS or similar packages.
  • Understanding of relevant national and industry standards such as BS EN 50341 and the ENATS suite.
  • Experience in Electrical Distribution Systems and Overhead Line Design.
