We are looking for a Section Engineer Mobile Plant to join our team.As the Section Engineer Mobile Plant, you will provide technical and management expertise which is necessary to lead and control a highly skilled, multi disciplined team providing a maintenance and repair service to our businesss vehicle, material handling equipment, heavy goods vehicle, locomotive & specialist steel making mobile plant. The Section Engineer Mobile Plant will also ensure the department operates within agreed financial, operational, safety and environment targets.

The Role of the Section Engineer Mobile Plant

  • Determine, organise and direct the necessary Mechanical, Auto-Electrical and contractor resources to provide an agreed level of mobile plant service to meet the needs and expectations of road safety, rail safety, compliance, plant availability, cost and performance across the businesses.
  • Providing Technical and Engineering expertise to resolve mobile plant engineering problems and developments.
  • Devising and developing planned maintenance and inspection schedules and ensuring that they are implemented to meet statutory, quality and engineering requirements.
  • Determine, organise and direct the engineering resources and material needed to satisfy the operational and engineering requirements of the Mobile Plant team in order to optimise and improve the availability, costs and performance.
  • Ensuring contractors are competent and adequately informed of the job requirements, arranging permits to work, agreeing access and safety procedures and ensuring such requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensuring engineering teams, specialist contractors and plant operator's activities comply with all statutory health, safety and environmental legislative requirements.
  • As part of Workshops Management team, developing long term strategic plant replacement and improvement strategies resulting in the continuous enhancement of mobile plant performance.
  • As part of Workshops Management team, negotiating contracts, organising and owning specialist contractors providing both on and off-site maintenance and services, refurbishment and modifications.
  • Identifying the training and development requirements within the multi disciplined engineering teams to provide a safety conscious and technically competent workforce


Required of the Section Engineer Mobile Plant

  • Educated with a minimum of Level 3 HNC / NVQ Mechanic / Mechanical Engineering.
  • Have or ability to develop specialist knowledge and experience to manage a garage facility, MOT preparations, HGV inspections and locomotive maintenance.
  • Have a high level of technical expertise demonstrated by suitable experience in a related garage or mobile plant role.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of management principles with good communication skills, effective man management skills and the possession of the necessary leadership skills to be able to motivate a multi skilled flexible workforce.
  • Have knowledge of mobile plant Health and Safety and Environment practises, particularly around HSE HSG261 health and safety in motor vehicle and associated industries.
