This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a leadership role, overseeing engineering operations and driving continuous improvement within a dynamic and innovative environment.Role OverviewAs Department Engineer, you will lead and develop a team of skilled engineers and craftsmen, ensuring the effective maintenance and improvement of all assets, services, and infrastructure within your department. Your role will focus on driving operational excellence, implementing engineering projects, and promoting sustainable outcomes across the site.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and coach a dynamic engineering team, fostering talent development and future leadership.
  • Manage the engineering budget for your department, driving cost-efficiency while maintaining high standards.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager to determine asset strategies and implement improvement plans.
  • Develop and execute engineering projects (capital and operational) that align with business goals.
  • Enhance plant reliability by driving improvements in maintenance standards and reducing downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and quality standards through rigorous audit schedules.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
  • Work closely with internal teams, consultants, and suppliers to achieve project goals.
  • Promote a culture of operational discipline, high performance, and adherence to critical controls.
About YouWe are seeking a performance-driven professional with strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a passion for exceeding expectations. To succeed in this role, you will have:Essential Criteria
  • Relevant engineering qualifications (HNC or higher) with at least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or technical role.
  • Extensive plant engineering experience, including machinery and control systems.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental legislation within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams, develop individuals, and foster strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills, with a collaborative approach to solutions.
  • Proficiency in using CMMS and MS Office.
  • Be within a commutable distance of their site in Stocksbridge, North Sheffield. 
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience with vacuum induction furnaces, arc remelting furnaces, and heat treatment furnaces.
  • Knowledge of three-phase systems, AC/DC equipment, and PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Siemens).
  • Understanding of steel manufacturing processes and how engineering parameters affect product quality.
  • Experience in team development, including succession planning and career progression strategies.
