Job Title: Project Site Manager - Marine & Civil Engineering
Locations: Various sites across UK, including Cornwall, Portsmouth, Wales and more. (Travel to project sites as required) with occasional travel to office in Cornwall
Salary: 50,000 - 70,000 (dependent on experience) + benefits, including travel packages
Job Overview: Our client, a leading company in marine construction and civil engineering, is seeking a highly skilled Project Site Manager to join their dynamic team. This role offers a unique opportunity to manage large-scale marine construction projects, including rock armouring, coastal defence, salvage operations, and heavy lift operations. The ideal candidate will possess a strong civil engineering background with experience in marine environments, working with ports, offshore operations, and large plant machinery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the successful delivery of marine and civil engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
- Manage the installation of rock armour for coastal sea defence projects, including logistics for large shipments of granite rock (e.g., 350 tonnes of rock).
- Supervise operations on-site or from barges, including commissioning, installation, and movement of plant and machinery.
- Coordinate and manage the safe mobilisation and operation of heavy equipment, including telehandlers, forklifts, and floating cranes.
- Lead salvage operations and emergency response, including bespoke salvage and weather-dependent tasks using the company's fleet.
- Work closely with a variety of stakeholders, including project teams, contractors, suppliers, and clients, to ensure project milestones are met.
- Play a key role in expanding the company's involvement in the cable market, including trenching, survey, and reburial projects.
- Manage site surveys, heavy lift operations, and manage ROVs for subsea work and cable installation.
- Ensure health and safety compliance across all activities and hold responsibility for risk assessments and site safety management.
- Use MS Office and project management tools to plan, monitor, and report on progress.
- Take responsibility for all aspects of project site mobilisation, including travel logistics and coordination.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong civil engineering background with experience in marine construction, including coastal defence and heavy lift operations.
- Experience with marine operations, such as managing vessels, barges, and offshore projects.
- Experience with large-scale plant machinery, including cranes, telehandlers, and forklifts. Relevant plant tickets (e.g., SSSTS, SMSTS) required.
- Previous experience working with rock armour or similar large-scale, logistics-heavy projects is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with surveying, trenching, and cable burial operations is a plus.
- Proven ability to manage project teams, stakeholders, and contractors in challenging environments.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office and project management software.
- Ability to travel to various project sites across UK, with all travel and accommodation arrangements provided.
- Health and safety qualifications (e.g., SSSTS, SMSTS) and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
Desirable Experience:
- Experience in the cable market, including subsea cable burial and survey.
- Familiarity with offshore and port operations, working in coastal and marine environments.
- Experience working with heavy plant and equipment on marine construction projects.
- Experience in managing large, mobile teams and resources across multiple project sites.
- Knowledge or experience in salvage operations and emergency response is a plus.
