Pay rate:21.52 PAYE / 26.92 UMBRELLA
Role Summary
The Health and Safety Practitioner will provide expert guidance and support to ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and best practices in Health and Safety. By driving a positive safety culture across the organization, the post holder will ensure that systems, policies, training, and risk management strategies are in place to protect stakeholders, foster competence, and enhance service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Advice and Guidance:
-Deliver professional and competent advice on Health and Safety matters to internal and external stakeholders.
-Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training aligned with national legislation and best practices.
-Incident Management and Compliance:
-Establish and maintain processes for reporting and investigating accidents/incidents.
-Support the implementation of control measures to mitigate risks.
Risk Management:
-Identify occupational risks and activities requiring assessments in collaboration with senior officers.
-Conduct proactive audits and inspections, ensuring adherence to compliance standards.
Contractor Competence:
-Develop systems to ensure contractors' competencies are routinely assessed and monitored.
Training and Development:
-Conduct training needs analyses and implement prioritized training programs for stakeholders.
-Design, coordinate, and deliver technical Health and Safety training, including bespoke and accredited courses.
-Update training materials in line with legislation and organizational needs.
Specialist Focus Areas:
-Lead initiatives in specialized areas such as Fire Safety, Asbestos Management, HAVS, and Training & Development.
-Represent the organization with statutory bodies/enforcement agencies and maintain productive working relationships.
Performance and Quality Assurance:
-Monitor compliance through performance management frameworks.
-Compile and report performance statistics to drive continuous improvement.
Project Management and Strategy:
-Lead projects from initiation to completion, including audits, inspections, and new initiatives to enhance safety management systems.
Person SpecificationEssential Qualifications and Memberships:
-NEBOSH National Diploma or equivalent.
-Technical Membership of IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health).
Desirable Qualifications:
-NEBOSH General Certificates in Occupational Health, Fire Safety, or Construction Health and Safety.
-Training qualifications such as AET, PTLLS, or equivalent.
Experience and Knowledge:
-Proven track record in a Health and Safety advisory role in a complex, high-volume environment.
-In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and performance standards.
-Experience in stakeholder engagement and delivering effective customer service.
-Proficiency in implementing and maintaining Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
-Significant experience in delivering training and competence assessments.
Skills and Abilities:
-Strong communication skills, capable of influencing and engaging diverse audiences.
-Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop long-term solutions.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital tools for data analysis, reporting, and presentation.
-Effective project management and organizational skills.
