The Role:

You would be working  patients in a wide range of community settings, appropriate to the age and condition of the child/adult i.e. Children’s Health Centre, Hospital, Patient’s homes, Special and Mainstream Schools and Nurseries and Adult training centres. 

Liaising with colleagues in outside Agencies e.g. Social Services, Education and private Care agencies.

You would be maintaining a mixed clinical caseload involving the therapeutic handling and treatment of a wide range of patients including those with complex needs including all age groups, where appropriate to specialism, both on an individual and group basis.

Caseload:

Community Services: Neurology, Musculoskeletal, Neuromuscular, Orthopaedics, Oncology, Rheumatology, Respiratory. Children with complex needs in Special Schools, nurseries

Duties:

  • To assess and treat Paediatric out-patients who may have diverse chronic and highly complex presentations
  • To facilitate the transition of children with physical and learning disabilities in to adult services
  • To support the Hydrotherapy service within the Special School.
  • To provide advice and assessment within the Paediatric Orthotics clinic.
  • To participate in the Paediatric MDT Assessment and Review clinics alongside the Paediatricians.
  • To work closely with the Paediatric Occupational Therapist in the provision of specialist seating and positioning equipment.

Equipment;

You would be required to work with the following:

Walking Aids; crutches, frames and rolators of various types, Sticks various

Manual Handling Equipment: Mechanical Hoists, Sliding Boards, ARJO Walking Hoist Supports: Large range of Appliances and Orthoses

Rehabilitation Equipment: Treadmill, Bicycle, Small Exercise equipment, Stairs, ramps and weights.

Hydrotherapy: emergency evacuation board.

IT Equipment: Personal Computer, Software e.g Physitrack. Microsoft applications including Excel PowerPoint Hospital Intranet and Internet relevant search engines.

Skills training requirements for the role:

Post Graduate Diploma /BSc in Physiotherapy, Chartered Physiotherapist, Registration with Health Professions Council.

Broad based knowledge and skills gained through participation in core Junior Rotations that MUST have included paediatrics as a rotation.

Relevant CPD experience across specialties gained from post registration rotations or equivalent. Experience of working in a MDT.
