We are seeking an Assistant Headteacher near Royston.

Our client, a special needs school, is seeking an Assistant Headteacher to join its leadership team. The school supports children and young people with a variety of complex learning difficulties, including physical disabilities and medical needs. It provides enriching experiences that promote independence and self-esteem, utilizing resources such as a sensory room and hydrotherapy pool.

As the school expands its mission to assist more young people, the Assistant Headteacher will take charge in the absence of the Head of School, lead school examinations, and support the overall strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of School in the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Lead and mentor staff, ensuring their professional development.
  • Oversee the welfare, conduct, and progress of students, communicating individual needs to staff.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with parents, external agencies, and the wider community to enhance student achievement.
  • Lead curriculum development and monitor student attainment and progress.

What are we looking for?

  • At least 5 years of demonstrable experience teaching in a special needs environment.
  • A proven track record of whole-school responsibilities and translating policy into successful practice.
  • Experience in developing community links and partnerships.
  • Leadership experience, particularly in raising standards across a school.
  • Experience working with school governors, trustees, or executives.
  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Accredited training in special education (e.g., PMLD/SLD/ASD) (desirable)
  • NPQSL certification (desirable)
