What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Area Ranger, you'll join a team of 12 people in the Farm & Countryside team which includes two Ranger roles and an Area Ranger.

Located in Wimpole Estate, the 2,500-acre estate includes a wide variety of habitats including grazed historic parkland, large lakes and wetland habitats, species rich wildflower meadows, SSSI/SAC woodland, tenanted farms and cottages, in-hand arable land in addition to the newly planted areas of woodland, wood pasture and agroforestry

What you'll be doing

You’ll be helping to protect and care for habitats, wildlife, buildings and machinery. You will be involved in a wide range of practical conservation work including forestry operations, planting trees, erecting fences, laying hedges, cutting flower meadows, green haying, installing and maintaining rustic benches and waymarking as well as assisting with monitoring the wildlife on the estate.

You’ll pass on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do. Whenever and wherever you come across people, you’ll take the time to talk to them and answer their questions, rather than rushing away to the next task.

You’ll make sure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work you and the team are doing.
