IT Infrastructure Engineer

The company is looking to recruit an IT Infrastructure Engineer with experience in Microsoft Server network infrastructure and virtualisation. The IT Infrastructure Engineer will be required to support, maintain, administer and troubleshoot Windows Servers, Applications, Hardware and Software.

Proven experience of working as a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer with a degree in Computer Science and an excellent knowledge of Network and Security protocols (CCNA a bonus), Hypervisor, Linux, Office 365.

The successful applicant will report to the Technical Director and will be responsible to oversee the smooth running of all aspects of the IT infrastructure.

Key responsibilities:
Oversee, maintain, and provide support for both physical and virtual infrastructures, including network storage, backup systems, and recovery solutions. This also involves daily network administration tasks to ensure consistent service availability.

  • Manage, maintain, and support the IT infrastructure – all network facing devices and associated peripherals including the digital phone network.
  • Oversee Office 365 management, including Exchange, cloud-based continuity services, SPAM filtering, and mobile device management (MDM).
  • Maintain the domain Active Directory and local user profile integration.
  • Adhere to and enforce the department’s change control processes and procedures.
  • Maintain records and infrastructure for compliance with Cyber Essentials – ensure all software is updated and still required (in-use), all devices are compliant.
  • Provide support channel for external support to 3rd party software (Sage, Autodesk Inventor, Pulsonix) to facilitate in maintaining the upgrade path.
  • Management of cloud based Anti-virus (Sophos) policies.
  • Monitor and maintain cloud-based services (such as data sharing centres).

Required Technical Skills:

  • Experience in managing virtual environments, particularly HyperVisor and KVM.
  • Expertise in managing email services such as Microsoft Exchange, SPAM filtering, cloud messaging, and continuity services.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows OS administration, including Active Directory management, Group Policy, user/group management, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux system administration and shell scripting.
  • Proficiency in maintaining server and storage hardware, including NAS and SAN systems.
  • Solid understanding of IT security principles, including antivirus measures, hard drive encryption, client system hardening, and authentication methods.
  • Experience maintaining un-interrupted service and disaster recovery.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of IP networking.
  • Experience working with backup software – Veeam, Linux rsync.
  • Take ownership to ensure all work and changes to the infrastructure are performed in such a way as to minimise disruption to existing business use.
  • Support, install, configure, monitor and troubleshoot, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP.
  • An understanding of patch management, software management and automation using SCCM.
  • An understanding of penetration testing.
