My client, a reputable business in the construction industry, are looking for a reliable, experienced and knowledgeable Assistant Fleet Manager / Assistant Workshop Manager / Fleet Maintenance Controller / Assistant Plant Manager / Assistant Fleet and Plant Manager / Workshop Controller to join their Workshop in Rugby.

Responsibilities of the Assistant Fleet Manager / Assistant Workshop Manager / Fleet Maintenance Controller / Assistant Plant Manager / Assistant Fleet and Plant Manager / Workshop Controller:

  • The Assistant Manager will use their knowledge of equipment and operating methods, to assist and support in the running of the businesses plant & fleet, to ensure an efficient fleet, while maximising service levels.
  • Supporting the Manager in his absence, managing the team and ensuring care is taken for the assets and depot security, opening and closing the site when required.
  • Understand Legal and company requirements for applying health, safety and environmental in the workplace and for the preparation, supply, use, and storage of equipment e.g. PUWER, LOLER regulations, maintenance and testing.
  • Perform such reasonable tasks that are required, as and when necessary; to maintain, promote, develop and expand the company approach.
  • Will represent the Plant and Fleet department consistently and with professionalism with confidence and skill.
  • Will be innovative in helping implement new ideas across the business ensuring that any challenges are fully investigated and understood to be openly and honestly reviewed.
  • Good commercial knowledge and awareness to support key decision making.
  • Ensure best practice is shared across the business at all levels.

Duties for the Assistant Fleet Manager / Assistant Workshop Manager / Fleet Maintenance Controller / Assistant Plant Manager / Assistant Fleet and Plant Manager / Workshop Controller include:

  • Support the Plant & Fleet Manager in managing the team to ensure targets are achieved and ensure service levels are maintained
  • Provide technical information to customers to help them select and use suitable equipment for the planned activities e.g. Health & Safety in operation, instructions for use, suitability for construction site and project, transportation requirements;
  • Ensuring equipment for hire is compliant with Health & Safety or legislation requirements e.g. PAT testing, inspections and operational testing, servicing, and MOTs as well as carrying out company vehicle handovers & returns to ensure any damage is highlighted as per company policy
  • Completing contract documentation at both on-hire and off-hire stages including all legal and health & safety documentation;
  • Agreeing, Processing and calculating hire & rental charges with external suppliers for supply of equipment and transport where required.
  • Being a central point of information for colleagues in terms of stock control, maintenance, staffing and delivery/collection requirements;
  • Handling customer technical enquiries and complaints, ensuring these are investigated and reported.
  • Managing Company hire fleet management systems to ensure timely delivery/collection of products, spares, and they are maintained, used and stored to maximise equipment availability.
  • Arranging the timely delivery and collection of equipment, considering vehicle type, site accessibility and health & safety requirements;
  • Follow organisational processes in relation to hire insurance and hire equipment damage, theft and loss

  • Clearly communicate accurate legal, technical, safety and environmental information, ensuring the level of detail provided is appropriate to meet the needs and understanding of customers;

The ideal Assistant Fleet Manager / Assistant Workshop Manager / Fleet Maintenance Controller / Assistant Plant Manager / Assistant Fleet and Plant Manager / Workshop Controller will have previous Fleet or Plant experience ideally with some supervisory experience.
