Role details:
Our client, a leading entity in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Product Safety Engineer to join their team in Rugeley. This permanent role involves working 2-3 days per week on-site and focuses on maintaining safety standards within high-stakes maritime projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acting as the main focal point for Product Safety Assurance of equipment design following customer requirements
- Providing credible advice and guidance to the wider business and external stakeholders
- Ensuring safety considerations are integral to the design process and account for the entire product lifecycle
- Maintaining and managing the implementation of the Project Safety Management System for equipment design and delivery
- Evolving working practices to manage product safety in a cost-effective manner
- Resolving a range of Product Safety engineering issues and compiling technical reports and presentations
- Developing safety arguments for various equipment, employing all facets of the product safety lifecycle
- Ensuring that Product Safety standards defined by statutory, business, and customer requirements are observed
- Working effectively as part of a team of Product Safety Engineers across the business
Job Requirements:
- Competence in Product Safety Engineering with a successful track record of delivering a Product Safety Management System (PSMS) within a complex system environment
- Knowledge of applicable legislation and standards (e.g., HASAWA, COSHH, REACh, BS EN 61508, Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-055)
- Degree qualified in a relevant Engineering/Systems/Safety discipline
Desirable:
- CEng or equivalent experience to achieve it in the short-term
- Membership in a relevant industry-wide body, e.g., SCSC, SaRS, IET, IMechE
