We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1-to-1 Teaching Assistant to support a child with trauma and mental health needs through their school journey at one of our specialized Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) primary schools. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personalized support to a child with trauma and mental health needs throughout the school day.
- Assist the child with academic tasks, ensuring they stay engaged and on track with their learning goals.
- Implement and follow individualized support plans, focusing on emotional regulation and coping strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and the wider school team to ensure a holistic approach to the child's development.
- Foster a safe and trusting relationship with the child, encouraging their confidence and self-esteem.
- Assist in managing challenging behaviours in a calm and supportive manner, promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience working with children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs (SEMH).
- Understanding of trauma-informed practices and approaches to supporting children with mental health challenges.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications in child psychology, mental health, or special educational needs (SEN).
- Experience in a similar role within a school or care setting.
