Senior Quantity Surveyor/Managing Surveyor

Location - Ruislip 

VGC are currently looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor/Managing Quantity Surveyor to head up our commercial team. 

Roles and responsibilities:

The role is to oversee the commercial team for a recruitment business, supporting the delivery teams, and ensuring efficient billing processes and achievement of maximum margin to the organisation.

  • Provide strategic commercial advice and support at all stages of the projects from tendering through to final accounting, and offer practical advice to management on contractual matters.
  • Develop relationships with key contacts & clients to manage current and future contracts
  • Lead commercial activities on projects to ensure company achieves full and maximum value for all work delivered
  • Ensure all members of the team observe the commercial processes & standards as outlined in the Business Management System 
  • Line management of the commercial team including a Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor and 2 Commercial Administrator

Tendering:

  • Support the tendering team with the preparation of the commercial submission

Contract set up:

  • Following contract sign off by the director ensure commercial team set up projects promptly on VGC Systems inline with agreed terms and conditionas and make sure relevant check/audits are in place. 

  • Operational teams are briefed on the project terms/requirements/processes
  • The payroll and sales ledger team are briefed on the requirements for administering the project

Contract administration:

  • Ensure all applications/invoice (forecast & actual) are prepared accurately, on time and in the appropriate format.
  • Support the senior credit controller with cash collection
  • Review monthly margin reports to identify differences between actual and contract margins. 
  • Maintain good relationships with client commercial teams

Management reporting:

  • Attend weekly operational and monthly management meetings. 
  • Support the operational teams with reviewing and analysing divisional profit and loss reports

Risk/Process management:

  • Review all the standard commercial documentation on an ongoing basis and implement changes when required
  • Audit responsibility for commercial procedures

Knowledge and experience required:

  • 3rd level qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • Professional membership to RICS of CIOB
  • Experience of overseeing contracts within mainline rail, LU and civil engineering sectors
  • Experience of overseeing CIJC WRA, CESA, NAECI projects
  • Experience of working within an employment or staffing business within a commercial role
