Innovative & Creative SEMH School located in London Borough of Hillingdon is recruiting for a part time Art Teacher to start immediately.

The successful Art Teacher / Teacher of Art OR SEMH Teacher / SEN Teacher must have Qualified Teacher Status.

It is important that the Teacher of Art / Art Teacher or SEMH Teacher / SEN Teacher has experience teaching students at KS3 & KS4 with a range of complex needs, including SEMH, Autism, and behaviour  difficulties as well as experience working with EHCPs. 

Class sizes are small, typically between 5-7 children per class.

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience teaching art in a school setting, preferably within an SEMH or similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH and ASD, including strategies for supporting students with these needs.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging behaviours.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to teaching.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with best practices in SEMH and ASD education.
  • Additional qualifications or training in special education, SEMH, or ASD.
  • Experience working in the London Borough of Hillingdon or similar urban settings.
  • Familiarity with art therapy techniques and their application in an educational context.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging art lessons tailored to the individual needs of students with SEMH and ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).
  • Utilize various teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages creativity and self-expression.
  • Employ techniques for de-escalating challenging behaviours and managing classroom dynamics effectively.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, providing constructive feedback and support.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members, including SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators) and support staff, to develop individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Maintain accurate records of students' achievements and behaviour incidents.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and external agencies regarding students' progress and any concerns.
