Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a single-form entry primary school in Runcorn that is easily accessible via public transport as they are looking to recruit a motivated and experienced teaching assistant for a long-term full-time temporary contract. This is a 1:1 position, supporting a young male pupil with behavioural needs and limited speech and language.Your new roleAs a teaching assistant within this school, you will be working alongside the reception class teacher to offer a stimulating and engaging learning environment and support a young male pupil on a 1:1 basis. You will be this pupils' main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate in the morning, walking them back to their grown-up at the end of the day, and liaising with the teacher, head teacher, SENCO and external professional on his progress. This young male pupil is an extremely loving and charismatic individual but does have behavioural needs and a speech delay. They are not aggressive towards staff or pupils but are extremely disruptive, struggle with focus and engagement, and have a tendency to run around the classroom. You will take a pupil-centred approach to their behaviour management, implementing strategies best suited to their personality with a focus on positive behaviour reinforcement. As they have limited speech and language, you will also offer phonics sessions, screening and various other sessions to aid in the development of their speech and language.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your applicaiton you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referenceable classroom-based experience in the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Experience within early years/reception (pre-school) is preferred
  • Experience supporting behavioural needs
  • Experience delivering phonics sessions
  • The ability to support speech and language
