Your new companyHays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a Runcorn-based secondary school as they are looking to appoint an experienced and motivated teaching assistant to support a pupil in year 8 on a 1:1 basis. This contract is full-time and required due to long-term sickness cover.Your new roleIn your new role as a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting a pupil in year 8 on a 1:1 basis. As this pupil has SEN and has an EHCP you will be their main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate and walking them back to their grown-up at the end of the school day. You will support them throughout the school day, including break and lunch times as to ensure that all activities are safe, inclusive and accessible. During lessons, you will break learning material down into a more digestible manner for them and support with their speech and language development. Due to their needs and being non-verbal, you will be required to use PECs and Makaton to communicate. You will implement a myriad of positive behaviour techniques to ensure that all learning takes part in a stimulating and inclusive environment and to effectively manage and identify their triggers. You will also be required to take them out of the class and use sensory play/therapy when they are overstimulated.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referencebale experience supporting SEN within a classroom environment in the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Previous experience supporting ASD and/or non-verbal
  • Experience using PECs and/or Makaton
  • An NVQ Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification is advantageous but not essential
