Your new companyDue to continued growth, our client who is a well established engineering company based in Northampton are looking to add a Principal Civil / Structural Engineer to their team. They specialise in the design, manufacture, and operation of specialist equipment and temporary works, serving various sectors, including bridges, buildings, offshore structures, refineries, power stations, and industrial plants. The successful applicant will have comprehensive experience in engineering management and structural design particularly steelwork, and a flair for engineering solutions.Your new roleYou will support the engineering management team with projects including resource planning and programming, design review and ensuring agreed deliverables are completed. The main responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Manage engineering projects, including resource planning, programming, design reviews, and ensuring timely and budget-compliant deliverables.
  • Collaborate with a dedicated team of Engineers and CAD Technicians, adhering to ISO9001, ISO45001, and ISO14001 management systems.
  • Mentor and review the work of engineers and CAD technicians.
  • Conduct conceptual and detailed design of construction methods and temporary structures to Eurocode standards.
  • Perform structural analysis using software such as STAAD Pro and LUSAS.
  • Prepare design calculations, sketches, and technical documentation, and oversee CAD teams in producing 3-D models and drawings.
  • Prepare tender designs and estimates.

What you'll need to succeed

Qualifications & Experience required for this role will include:

Essential:

  • Considerable post-graduation experience in analysis and design of structures, especially in steel.
  • Proven experience in technical team leadership and management.
  • Knowledge of temporary works and construction engineering practices, particularly heavy lifting equipment and techniques.
  • Proficient knowledge of Eurocodes for design.
  • Excellent problem-solving, presentation, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferable:

  • Chartered Engineer status with a minimum 2:1 degree in civil/structural engineering.
  • Experience in designing and constructing long-span bridges and major buildings.
  • Background in designing specialist temporary works related to heavy lifting/moving projects.
  • Field/site experience in industrial settings.
  • Familiarity with ISO9001, ISO45001, and ISO14001 management systems.
  • Experience in CAD software (Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Inventor).
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
