Senior BuyerLocation: Wellingborough   Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 Working Hours - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Buyer to join a rapidly growing team. This role is crucial in supporting the contracts team, taking responsibility for large-scale schemes and customers. The Senior Buyer will manage the procurement of materials and equipment, ensuring projects are delivered within budget and on time. The successful candidate will develop strong relationships with stakeholders, making informed buying decisions to secure the best prices and lead times.Duties
  • Participating in tender handover meetings and reviewing material quotations, data sheets, and tenders.
  • Supervising and supporting the buying team, ensuring best practices are followed and shared.
  • Handling material approvals and resolving technical queries.
  • Reviewing stock and purchasing materials for larger schemes and customers.
  • Organising deliveries of materials with Contracts Managers, confirming locations, timeframes, and budgets.
  • Highlighting concerns over material lead times to Contracts Managers and Senior Management.
  • Identifying opportunities for new suppliers to maximise value, improve coverage, and reduce lead times.
  • Negotiating supplier terms, including pricing, rebates, and delivery charges.
  • Developing and reporting key buying metrics, preparing dashboards and graphs to show trends.
  • Contributing to the development of a robust stock management system.
  • Visiting other depots and offices as needed to review procurement requirements.
The Candidate
  • At least five years of experience in construction procurement.
  • Strong negotiation skills and technical knowledge or aptitude for construction.
  • Experience in implementing processes and managing change, with a solid understanding of LEAN principles.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organisation skills and confidence in managing multiple deadlines.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
