It serves students aged 11 to 18 and is recognised for its strong academic performance, being the highest performing secondary in Wellingborough for the Progress 8 measure and holds a Quality Mark Character School designation.They are looking for an inspirational, committed and motivated Head of English to lead and make a difference to their successful and well-resourced faculty.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership & Management* Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.* Develop and implement the department's curriculum, ensuring alignment with national standards.* Monitor and improve student outcomes, including exam performance and literacy levels.* Support, mentor, and develop teaching staff within the department.* Conduct performance reviews and provide professional development opportunities.* Manage departmental budgets, resources, and timetables.Teaching & Learning* Deliver high-quality English lessons, setting a strong example for other teachers.* Oversee lesson planning, assessment strategies, and differentiation to support all students.* Implement and promote innovative teaching methods and use of technology.* Ensure effective intervention strategies for students who need additional support.Curriculum Development* Review and update the English curriculum to meet the needs of students and exam board requirements.* Introduce new texts, topics, and pedagogical approaches to keep the curriculum engaging.* Develop enrichment activities such as reading clubs, competitions, and theatre trips.Assessment & Data Analysis* Monitor student progress through assessments, data analysis, and feedback.* Use data to inform teaching strategies and improve student performance.* Prepare reports for senior leadership and external stakeholders (e.g., Ofsted, governors).Collaboration & Communication* Work closely with senior leadership, other heads of department, and support staff.* Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and external agencies when necessary.* Promote English across the school through events, literacy initiatives, and cross-curricular projects.REQUIREMENTSEssential Qualifications & Experience* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.* Degree in English, English Literature, or a related subject.* Proven experience teaching English at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.* Experience in a leadership or management role (e.g., Second in Department, Key Stage Coordinator).Skills & Competencies* Strong leadership and people management skills.* Ability to inspire and motivate both students and staff.* Excellent knowledge of the English curriculum, assessment frameworks, and exam specifications.* Strong organisational and time management skills.* Data analysis skills to track progress and implement interventions.* Effective communication skills with staff, students, and parents.* Ability to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies.Personal Attributes* Passion for English and commitment to high-quality education.* High expectations for student achievement and behaviour.* Adaptability and resilience in a fast-paced school environment.* Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.Desirable Criteria* Master's degree in Education, English, or a related field.* Experience working with external exam boards and curriculum development.* Familiarity with educational technology and digital learning tools.HOW TO APPLY:Ready to take the next step?
