Polytec are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Saffron Walden based client. The successful candidate will take the lead on product development and product improvement projects, collaborating with senior engineers and scientists in a dynamic R and D environment to ensure the development of market leading products.

Responsibilities:

* Design products and create innovative solutions that meet customer needs
* Lead individual NPD and product improvement projects from conception to completion
* Support and lead Engineering Change Request (ECR) projects
* Mechanical and electromechanical design using SolidWorks
* Source materials and parts, analysing risk and mitigating supplier bottlenecks
* Develop test procedures, collect data, analyse results and report findings
* Plan and cost projects, including creating project plans, timelines and budgets
* Prepare and update product documentation including instructions, production packs, BOMs and
QA / testing procedures

Requirements:

* Degree in Mechanical engineering
* 10 years minimum working experience in an industrial or R and D environment with a track record of
delivering projects on time and to budget
* Design experience including both mechanical and electronic products and components
* Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and material selection
* Excellent knowledge of SolidWorks and Solidworks PDM
* Experience of working with suppliers including sourcing, negotiating and managing relationships
