Job Title:    Income Officer (3 month contract) Location:  Saffron Walden   Salary:  £35,000  Term:   Contract   Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to develop your career while making a real difference in your community? We are seeking an Income Officer to join our clients busy, customer-facing income team within a local authority on a 3-month contract. In this role, you will help tenants manage their rent payments, provide budgeting and welfare benefits advice, and support residents in meeting their financial commitments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor tenants' rent accounts in line with the council’s rent arrears policy.
  • Process pending arrears actions efficiently.
  • Conduct home visits to discuss rent arrears and agree on suitable repayment arrangements.
  • Provide advice on state benefits, including Housing Benefit and Universal Credit, and signpost tenants to relevant agencies.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all interactions with tenants, both in person and over the phone.
  • Ensure compliance with pre-court protocols to facilitate the serving of Notices of Seeking Possession when necessary.
  • Serve Notices of Seeking Possession to tenants who fail to meet their rent obligations.
Requirements:
  • A proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude with experience in a busy, customer-facing environment—ideally within social housing.
  • Access to a vehicle and the ability to travel throughout the Uttlesford area.
  • Experience in debt recovery, particularly within social housing.
  • Knowledge of legal processes related to debt recovery.
