Obsolescence Engineer

Location: Yeovil

Duration: 12 months

Rate: up to £40 ph Umbrella

The successful candidate will provide the business and customer base with an effective obsolescence service in accordance with BS EN 62402:2019 which fulfils the requirements of both internal and external customers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Undertake in-depth investigations into obsolescence issues, analysing the engineering and technical specifications of the affected equipment, putting forward potential solutions to the Lead Obsolescence Engineer for approval.
  • Maintain key databases with equipment status and information, essential to the management of obsolescence and as required for contracted outputs, for instance, risk registers, sustainment studies, obsolescence notification records etc.
  • Identify and execute the necessary activities to deliver mitigations and solutions to resolve obsolescence issues, in agreement with the Lead Engineer.
  • Maintain close working relationships with internal stakeholders, to manage known issues and to gain intelligence on potential future issues. Utilise the network to collaborate on projects and look for opportunities to improve the support provided to the customer.
  • Support the department interactions with key business functions, customers, vendors, and other service providers, as required.
  • Prepare and provide product/system status, statistical information, and background information, to the Obsolescence Manager and or Lead Engineer as required and tasked.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of strategic plans for products and systems to meet current and future customer requirements, utilising intelligence gained through stakeholder and vendor interactions.
  • Responsible for taking reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work and to co-operate with managers, supervisors, and others to enable the company to meet its statutory obligations for health, safety and environment.

Proven Ability / Key Skills

  • Ability to investigate complex technical issues and contribute to the creation of effective solutions that minimise the impact of obsolescence on the customer.
  • Ability to read and fully comprehend technical drawings, technical documentation, specifications etc.
  • Ability to collate detailed and comprehensive information, to contribute to; reports, studies, and analyses, to support the creation of business cases, contracted deliverables and product notices.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, to represent company in a professional manner and present information to internal audiences of mixed disciplines and levels of seniority.
  • Qualified at HNC or equivalent, with Aerospace or relevant industry knowledge.
  • Understanding of the function of the main systems of helicopters.
  • Conversant with ERP II systems and the standard Microsoft suite.
  • Specific software application knowledge essential, such as but not limited to; COPACR, APACR, TQS, CIETP's, SharePoint.
  • Have a thorough understanding of data and information exchange, through the Data Management Service, for both internal and external communications. This relates to but is not limited by the sensitivities of the business policy including both proprietary and copyright statements, the Security Policy Document 2 (SPD2), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and any additional specific legislative requirements as set out in the Contract.
