Vertex IT Solutions are partnered with a highly established audio visual manufacturer based in Manchester who are recruiting for a skilled hardware and software engineer on a permanent basis to operate five days in their office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the entire development lifecycle, from initial concept and feasibility studies to final implementation and testing. This role requires strong project management skills, excellent technical expertise, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test both hardware and embedded software for new and existing products.
- Oversee the integration of hardware and software, ensuring optimal performance and functionality.
- Conduct feasibility studies, prototyping, and proof-of-concept development for new product ideas.
Technical Coordination & Project Management:
- Organise and manage all aspects of product development, working closely with internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
- Define project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure on-time and within-budget execution.
- Act as a liaison between engineering, sales, marketing, and operations to ensure smooth product lifecycle management.
Innovation & research:
- Stay ahead of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor advancements to drive innovation.
- Identify opportunities for improving existing products and developing new market-leading solutions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and certifications.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work cross-functionally with teams including R&D, Sales, Production, and Support to facilitate smooth product rollouts.
- Clearly document engineering processes, designs, and test results for internal use and regulatory compliance.
- Provide technical guidance and training to internal stakeholders on new products and technologies.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in hardware and software engineering, ideally within the Pro AV, electronics, or embedded systems sector.
- Strong background in embedded systems development, including firmware programming (C/C++, Python, or similar).
- Experience in hardware design, including PCB layout, circuit design, and microcontroller-based systems.
- Knowledge of networking protocols, AV signal distribution, or control systems is advantageous.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) and the ability to take a product from concept to market.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to organise, prioritise, and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with compliance testing and certification processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with FPGA programming, DSP, or real-time embedded systems.
- Familiarity with CAD software for hardware design.
- Understanding of AV-over-IP, HDBaseT, or similar AV transmission technologies.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing and production processes.
