Week 1: Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 16:45

Week 2 : Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 16:45 / Friday 08:00 - 16:30

Role Summary:

You will lead the team within the machine shop to manufacture small batch, special and prototype items ensuring that the maximum utilisation is achieved through the effective deployment and management of the CNC Setters and Operators.

Key responsibilities within your new role would be to:

  • Lead by example and provide leadership to the machine shop team.
  • Program, set and operate CNC mills and lathes and act as mentor and trainer on their use.
  • Operate manual lathes and mills and act as mentor and trainer on their use.
  • Create work packages using the ERP system and monitor progress through the shop.
  • Carry out daily start up meetings and allocate tasks to meet the requirements of the plan.
  • Monitor and report on the situation relating to the performance of the team.
  • Measure and record appropriate metrics to support relevant KPIs and use these KPIs to determine appropriate actions to improve the performance of the team.
  • Carry out staff appraisals and reviews.
  • Ensure the workforce has the appropriate skill sets through training and development and that it is motivated and performing to expectations.
  • Implement best practices to improve production throughput, capacity, quality and reliability.
  • Implement a culture of continuous improvement using appropriate tools and techniques such as lean manufacturing and 5S.
  • Operate as a CNC Setter/Operator manufacturing products in line with business needs.
  • Any other related duties assigned by the Operations Manager.

Experience and skills required for this position:

  • Experience in the manufacture of machined components in a small batch or prototype environment.
  • Experience in leading a team.
  • Be an effective communicator.
  • Be able to understand exploded drawings and adhere to written work instructions and route cards.
  • Be able to create work packages.
  • Be able to program and set a wide range of CNC mills and lathes.
  • Have the ability to use manual lathes and mills.
  • Must be able to maintain a very high level quality to tight tolerances.
  • Have knowledge of modern manufacturing methods.
  • Have knowledge of, or exposure to LEAN manufacturing techniques.
  • Have a positive 'can do' attitude
  • Be motivational and accountable
  • Full current driving licence and a valid passport is required.
  • Due to the nature of this business all candidate will be required to undergo security clearance at SC level.
