Special Educational Needs Teacher – Scarborough

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with special educational needs? GSL Education is working closely with a Special Needs School in Scarborough to appoint a dedicated SEN Teacher to join their team and inspire their secondary students. This is a full-time position, starting as soon as possible.

About the Role of a Special Educational Needs Teacher:

As an SEN Teacher, you will have the opportunity to deliver tailored education to secondary students with a range of learning needs, including autism, ADHD, and other complex needs. You will play a vital role in ensuring that students receive the individualised support they need to achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Delivering Lessons: Create and deliver differentiated lessons that meet the needs of each student, adapting teaching strategies to suit a variety of learning styles and abilities.
  • Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Develop, implement, and review IEPs for students, working closely with parents, support staff, and external professionals to ensure each child’s specific needs are met.
  • Student Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and adjusting teaching approaches to support their development.
  • Classroom Management: Create a positive, supportive classroom environment where students feel safe, engaged, and motivated to learn.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the wider school team, including teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and external agencies, to deliver a holistic approach to student wellbeing and progress.
  • Behavioural Support: Manage and support students with behavioural challenges, implementing strategies to promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): You must hold QTS, with experience or additional qualifications in Special Educational Needs (SEN).
  • Experience with SEN: Prior experience working with students who have special educational needs, particularly at secondary age, is highly desirable.
  • Passionate and Patient: A compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach, with a commitment to supporting students with complex needs.
  • Strong Communication Skills: The ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and external professionals to build strong relationships and ensure the best outcomes for each child.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the wider school community.
  • Organised and Proactive: Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage your workload and respond flexibly to the changing needs of students.
