Multi Skilled Engineer

Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE

Shift: 2 Days, 2 Nights 4 Off 6-6

Location: Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire

Role Purpose:

Reporting into the Lead Technician on shift or to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for managing a site with both mechanical and electrical technologies. Attending repairing breakdowns in a timely manner to limit the impact on production. Be proactive in continuous improvements and planned maintenance activities for all site equipment and processes.

The Role – Multi Skilled Engineer  

  • Actively participate in maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement tasks with a hands-on approach.
  • Identify and rectify equipment faults efficiently while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Support continuous improvement by monitoring equipment performance, efficiency, and waste reduction.
  • Carry out routine equipment installations and support the implementation of new projects.
  • Accurately log all work on the CMMS (Shire) system, maintaining detailed records of maintenance activities.
  • Ensure clear shift handovers by effectively communicating key updates and actions.
  • Attend SIC shift production meetings and team briefs, contributing engineering insights and priorities.
  • Assist the Lead Technician in identifying and resolving key production issues.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for major stoppages and implement corrective measures.
  • Manage contractors and oversee permit-to-work procedures, ensuring compliance with risk assessments and RAMS.
  • Support training and development of apprentices and operators, ensuring knowledge transfer on equipment operation and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and uphold food safety, hygiene, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
  • Deputise for the Lead Technician as required, taking on leadership responsibilities when necessary.

 

The Candidate – Multi Skilled Engineer 

 

  • Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
  • Recognised electrical and mechanical qualifications (ideally HNC).
  • Experience in FMCG or a fast-paced manufacturing environment (desirable).
  • Strong fault-finding skills and root cause analysis (RCA) experience.
  • Understanding of PLCs and computer-controlled equipment (desirable).
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and personal responsibility for high standards of work.
