Our client is a leading food manufacturer based in Scunthorpe. We are recruiting for an Engineering Team Leader.

You will be responsible for ensuring the safe and uninterrupted operation of production line machinery, services, and ancillary equipment. Delivering top-tier service to operations through both production support and planned maintenance. Leading and motivating your team by adhering to best practices and aligning with the organisation's strategy to achieve operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Engineering Manager and other Shift Leaders to ensure smooth operation within the Engineering Department.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage your team, fostering commitment, discipline, and high performance.
  • Identify and address training needs based on skill gaps and business requirements.
  • Oversee the maintenance of process equipment and service procedures, addressing any corrective or remedial maintenance needs to uphold equipment standards.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and ensure equipment is left in a safe, operational condition.
  • Facilitate effective communication within your team, across shifts, and with the Engineering Manager, Production Managers, Team Leaders, and Night Hygiene to ensure operational continuity.
  • Manage the Permit to Work System during your shift and communicate any 'open' permits and ongoing contractor activities to the next shift.
  • Maintain workshop and engineering store cleanliness, holding team members accountable for a tidy environment.
  • Accurately record all breakdown information for plant and equipment, ensuring consistency in documentation.
  • Encourage problem-solving and root cause analysis within your team and with peers.
  • Develop team members and identify skill gaps using the PDP framework.
  • Perform electrical and engineering maintenance with a focus on safe plant operations and a safe working environment.
  • Carry out planned maintenance as required by the Engineering Manager.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of departmental activities and functions.
  • Understand engineering and operational KPIs and identify improvement opportunities to Senior Engineers.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Experience of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
  • Understanding of FMCG industry.
  • Understanding of retailer products and quality standards preferable.
  • Experience of successfully managing tasks/projects to completion.
  • Computer Literate
  • Reliable, conscientious, self-motivated and professional.
  • Effective planning and organisation skills.
  • Effective communication - written, verbal and non-verbal
  • Effective problem solving skills and ability to influence solutions
