Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistants Needed in Scunthorpe -Academics

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with complex needs? We are looking for dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to join our team at a school in the Scunthorpe area, working with children who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and behavioral challenges. Some of these children have also experienced trauma and may be on medication to help manage their needs.

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Scunthorpe
Contract Type: Full-time and part-time roles available
Salary: Competitive, based on experience



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students, helping them engage positively with their learning
  • Assist with implementing personalized learning and behaviour support plans under the guidance of SEN specialists
  • Help students manage emotional and behavioral challenges with patience, empathy, and resilience
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Be attentive to the unique needs of each child, including those who have experienced trauma or require medication as part of their care plan


What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly those with SEMH, ASD, or behavioral needs
  • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and sensitivity to the needs of children with challenging life experiences
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive atmosphere
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, using de-escalation techniques when needed
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and work closely with a multidisciplinary team
