Role involves overseeing client accounting work while supervising a small team. You'll be responsible for preparing financial statements, tax returns, and management accounts while also guiding junior staff members and ensuring quality control of their work. Description
- Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and supporting their development
- Manage a portfolio of clients, serving as their primary point of contact
- Review and finalise financial statements, tax returns, and management accounts prepared by junior staff
- Identify and resolve complex accounting issues and discrepancies
- Monitor team workload and delegate tasks appropriately to meet deadlines
- Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to team members
- Prepare high-quality financial statements and accounts for more complex clients
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies
- Liaise with clients to gather information and discuss financial matters
- Implement quality control procedures to maintain high standards of work
- Participate in client meetings and present financial information
- Contribute to practice development initiatives and process improvements
- Report to managers/partners on team performance and client matters
- Assist with training programs for junior accountants and apprentices
- Stay current with changes in accounting standards and tax legislation
Profile
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA), or AAT with over 10 years practice experience
- Proven experience supervising or mentoring junior staff members
- Strong technical knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax legislation (must have UK practice experience)
- Excellent client relationship management skills with confidence in client-facing situations
- Experience managing multiple deadlines and prioritising effectively
- Proficient with accounting software (Desirable - Xero, Tax calc)
- Demonstrated ability to review financial statements and identify errors
- Experience handling more complex accounting scenarios and business structures
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
- Proactive approach to team development and continuous improvement
- Ability to work independently while supporting a team structure
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Commercial awareness and understanding of client's business needs
Job Offer
Starting salary of at least £45,000-£55,000 (DOE)
25 days annual leave with extra day off for your birthday (excluding bank holidays)
