SEMH Teacher
Location: Selby, North Yorkshire

Contract: Full-Time, Maternity Cover, Fixed Term

Are you a resilient and adaptable teacher with a passion for supporting students with SEMH and special educational needs and disabilities? GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and creative teacher to join a Pupil Referral Unit, starting immediately to cover a maternity leave until the end of the academic year.

About the Role as an SEMH Teacher:

  • Teach Nurture, Art, and provide support across other Key Stage 3 and 4 subjects.
  • Step in for staff absences, ensuring continuity of learning.
  • Inspire and engage students with creative and flexible teaching approaches across the curriculum.
  • Support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them build confidence and resilience.

Ideal SEMH Teacher requirements:

  • Experience working with SEMH and SEND students, ideally in a PRU or alternative provision.
  • A nurturing and caring personality, with the resilience to manage lesson refusers and challenging behaviours.
  • Creative flair—art experience is not essential, but an ability to bring engaging and imaginative ideas into lessons is key.
  • Strong adaptability, quick thinking, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.

Minimum SEMH Teacher requirements:

  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Provide relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Hold QTS, QTLS or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Must have teaching experience in an SEMH, SEN or PRU setting.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one with GSL Education. DBS sponsorship is available for this position.
