Our client is a leading construction company known for delivering high-quality infrastructure and commercial projects across the UK. With a reputation for excellence, they are expanding their finance team and are looking for a dynamic and detail-oriented Assistant Management Accountant to join their growing office in Sevenoaks.

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Management Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the financial operations of the company. You will assist the Management Accountant and wider finance team with daily, monthly, and annual tasks, ensuring financial accuracy and efficiency. Key duties include:

  • Monthly Management Accounts: Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts, including balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Financial Reporting: Assist in producing financial reports for internal stakeholders to ensure effective decision-making.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial forecasts.
  • Cash Flow Management: Support the monitoring of cash flow forecasts and ensure the company meets its financial obligations.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable: Oversee transactional finance including invoice processing, payments, and reconciliation of supplier accounts.
  • Bank Reconciliations: Conduct regular bank reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • VAT Returns: Assist in the preparation and submission of VAT returns in line with HMRC regulations.
  • Payroll Support: Collaborate with the payroll team to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing.
  • Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations as required.
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in special finance projects and contribute to process improvements as needed.

Key Requirements

  • Qualifications: Part-qualified in ACCA, CIMA, or AAT (or equivalent qualification).
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years experience in a similar role, ideally within the construction or related industries.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles.
    • Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Sage, QuickBooks, or similar systems preferred).
    • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
  • Attention to Detail: Strong analytical and numerical skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other teams and departments.
  • Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Construction Industry (Desirable but not essential): Familiarity with the financial practices and regulations specific to the construction industry.
