Personal Tutor (Building Technologies)  

Salary: £31,719-£35,667  (pro-rated for term time) 

Contract: Permanent

Location: Sheffield 

Hours: 37 Hours X 40 Weeks

About the Role 

As our mission to transform lives through learning, this role is pivotal in our ambitions to provide all students with the best possible experience at college. The role encompasses student support and advocation whilst working alongside curriculum staff to enhance positive experiences, wellbeing, and academic achievement at college. As a member of the pastoral team, the personal tutor will deliver tutorial lessons increasing the breadth of SHAPE (Staying Safe, Health & Well-being, Active Citizenship, Progression & Careers and Equality Matters). As a member of the student experience team, Personal tutors will support and work with curriculum staff and students by implementing and assisting interventions to improve outcomes regarding attendance, achievement, and destinations.  

Key Responsibilities   

  • Supporting the delivery of academy’s interview, enrolment, and induction processes. 

  • Improving outcomes for all academy students through formal 1:1s and other pastoral interventions. 

  • Working and liaising with curriculum staff, cross college departments and external agencies to improve student attendance, progress, and achievement. 

  • Delivering a range of engaging tutorials through the SHAPE programme. 

  • Improving and maintaining positive destinations of students, including through internal progression and UCAS applications.  

  • Using IT systems to record activity and data to improve performance. 

Skills & Knowledge

  • The ability to work across college teams, including SEND, academic staff, exams, and Safeguarding. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build a positive rapport with learners.  

  • Experience in leading improvements in student participation, attendance, and behaviour. 

  • Experience of supporting students with low-level safeguarding concerns, including mental health, and driving equality, diversity and inclusion activities. 

  • Relevant qualifications and English and maths level 2 or equivalent.
