Company Overview:
Nicholas Associates is excited to recruit for a leading company in the fabrication and engineering sector, renowned for its work across industries including Rail, MOD, Oil & Gas, Nuclear, and Steel Manufacturing. Our client, a specialist in medium to heavy fabrications, is searching for a skilled Plater to join their Sheffield-based team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to complex, high-quality fabrications that are both bespoke and standard, up to 35 tons.

Role & Responsibilities:
In this role, you will take responsibility for the fabrication and welding of high-quality structures, delivering projects on time, on budget, and safely. Key duties include:

  • Manufacturing both bespoke and standard fabrications up to 35 tons
  • Ensuring work meets stringent quality, safety, and output standards
  • Carrying out welder qualifications per accreditation standards
  • Meeting production and safety procedures through daily, weekly, and monthly checks

Qualifications & Skills:
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should have:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Completion of a relevant apprenticeship, City and Guilds in fabrication and welding, or equivalent
  • Proven experience in a quality-driven, industrial environment
  • Proficiency with a range of materials, including carbon steels, stainless steel, aluminum, and specialised alloys
  • Strong technical reading skills for understanding complex drawings and quality documents
  • Competency in steel processing techniques (cutting, shearing, drilling, bending)

Personal Attributes:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting quality standards
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexible, "can-do" attitude, with a readiness to take on varied tasks

General Duties:

  • Working at height on structures such as scaffolding and roofs
  • Operating equipment like MEWPs, forklifts, overhead cranes, and hydraulic presses (training provided if required)
  • Site installation of structures and plant items
  • Competency in general welding, grinding, burning, and assembly
